“impressionist”


This is the gray catbird(Dumetella carolinensis) and among all the noises, and bird sounds they mimic—they make a sound just like a cat(mwee or meeurr). You would swear there is a cat in the brush where the call is coming from. No other species is uniform slaty gray.

I was able to get close to this bird and then my Sigma 50-500mm lens did the rest. I used my Pentax K5 to make the image.

Camera settings: ISO 800, aperture f/6.7, shutter 1/100, focal length 500mm
